I've heard great things about mecha anime, but it feels a bit overwhelming to get into. I've only seen bits of Evangelion and it was a lot. What are some good mecha recommendations for a beginner? Something with a good story and cool robots, but maybe not super complex or depressing for a first dive?
Gurren Lagann is the perfect entry point! It's pure hype, over-the-top action, and an incredibly uplifting story. You'll be yelling 'ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWER!' 🔥
Code Geass is fantastic! Great story, political intrigue, cool mechs (Knightmares), and a smart protagonist. It balances action with engaging plot really well.
Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans is a good standalone Gundam series. Gritty, focus on character bonds, and awesome mech designs without needing prior knowledge.
Full Metal Panic! is a fun mix of mecha action, comedy, and high school slice of life. It's really enjoyable and not too heavy.
Knights of Sidonia has a unique CG style but is a great sci-fi mecha survival story. Very engaging and cinematic.
