Code Geass has a lot of the political strategy and grand-scale conflict, though it's more mecha on Earth than pure space opera. Still great!
Mobile Suit Gundam (Universal Century timeline, especially) is the OG space opera with deep political themes and war. Char's Counterattack is epic.
Space Battleship Yamato 2199/2202. Excellent remake of a classic with amazing space battles and a compelling journey. Very underrated.
The Irresponsible Captain Tylor for a more comedic take, but it still has surprisingly intelligent political maneuvering amidst the chaos. 🚀
