I've seen a fair bit of Gundam and enjoyed it, but I'm looking to branch out in the mecha genre. Are there any other great mecha anime, perhaps with different takes on the concept, unique designs, or compelling stories that aren't part of the Gundam universe? Hit me with your favorites!
'Neon Genesis Evangelion' is essential mecha viewing. It completely deconstructs the genre, with deep psychological themes and amazing action. Prepare for existential dread. 🤯
'Gurren Lagann' is the opposite of Eva – pure hype, over-the-top action, and an incredible story about pushing limits. It's an absolute blast from start to finish! DO IT!
For a more modern take, '86 - Eighty-Six' is fantastic. It's got great mecha action, a really poignant story about war and discrimination, and excellent character work. Highly recommended.
'Code Geass' features some really cool mecha combat with its Knightmare Frames, combined with a brilliant strategic plot. The main character is a genius anti-hero.
'Macross Frontier' is a great pick if you like space opera, music, and transforming mechs! It's got fantastic dogfights and a catchy soundtrack. 🎶
