Gurren Lagann is wildly popular but often overlooked as 'just a shonen'. Its hype and emotional impact are unmatched! 🔥 You'll be screaming 'ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWER!'
Patlabor (the OVA/movies specifically) is a fantastic realistic mecha series focusing on police work with giant robots. Very grounded and thoughtful, a nice change of pace.
Knights of Sidonia has a unique CG style and really intense space survival horror elements with giant mechs. It's quite good and has a gripping story.
Code Geass technically has mechs (Knightmares), and the strategy is amazing. If you haven't seen it, it's a must! The mech combat is secondary to the brilliant tactics.
The Vision of Escaflowne is an amazing fantasy mecha from the 90s with great characters and world-building. Highly recommend if you like a bit of magic with your giant robots!
Full Metal Panic! blends action, comedy, and drama with mecha very well. Sousuke Sagara is an iconic character and the series has a great balance of tones.
